66th National School Games: Tenloi Phom wins silver in taekwondo

Dimapur: Sixteen-year old Tenloi Phom won silver in 48kg category (taekwondo)

Dimapur: Sixteen-year old Tenloi Phom won silver in 48kg category (taekwondo) for Nagaland team at the ongoing 66th National School Games in Delhi on Thursday.

In the first match, Tenloi defeated his opponent from Karnataka and beat his rival from Chhattisgarh in second match. In the semis he overcame his opponent from Assam but went down to his rival from Haryana in the final match.

A total of eight players from Nagaland are taking part in the championship led by coach Visabiu Peseyie and team manager Deepak Prasad. The taekwondo players are representing Nagaland under the department of Youth Resources and Sports.

Tenloi is a student of TM Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, and currently training at Sports Academy, IG stadium, Kohima.

In other matches, Thongti (under 45 kg) won the first match against Jharkhand but lost to Gujarat in the second match.

While Nnumhei (under 63 kg) won the first match against Andhra Pradesh but lost to Gujarat in the second match. The Nagaland team will be playing four more matches.

After a gap of three years, School Games Federation of India (SGFI) is hosting the 66th National School Games in two different cities – Bhopal and Delhi – from June 6 to the 12th.
